FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about private urology appointments, self-referral, insurance, first consultations and when to seek urgent help.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You do not need a GP referral to book a private consultation with Mr Shahzad. You are welcome to self-refer.

If your GP has already seen you, please bring any referral letter, investigation results or relevant correspondence to your appointment.

Can I self-refer?

Yes. You can contact Yasmin Khan directly to enquire about an appointment without a GP referral.

What should I bring to my appointment?

  • Any GP referral letter or correspondence if you have one
  • Previous test results, scan reports or clinic letters related to your condition
  • A list of any medications you are currently taking
  • Your insurance details and authorisation number if you are using private medical insurance
  • Payment details if you are self-paying

What happens at a first consultation?

Your first appointment will usually include a full history of your symptoms, review of previous results and, where appropriate, a physical examination.

Mr Shahzad will explain his assessment and discuss your options, including whether further investigations are required.

Can I use private medical insurance?

Yes. Mr Shahzad is recognised by major private health insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, Cigna and WPA.

Please check your policy and obtain pre-authorisation before attending. Include Mr Shahzad’s name and GMC number, 6071731, on your authorisation request.

Some symptoms should not wait for a private appointment. Seek urgent help through NHS 111, your GP, A&E or emergency services if you experience:

  • Complete inability to pass urine
  • Heavy or persistent blood in the urine
  • Severe pain, fever or feeling very unwell with urinary symptoms
  • Any rapidly worsening or concerning symptom
