Mr Syed Ali Shahzad provides specialist assessment and treatment for men’s urological health conditions, including erectile dysfunction, male fertility concerns, and a range of conditions affecting the testicles, foreskin and scrotal area. All consultations are conducted with sensitivity and discretion.
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. It is common and can have physical or psychological causes, or a combination of both. Physical causes include cardiovascular disease, diabetes and reduced testosterone. Mr Shahzad will assess the cause and discuss the treatment options available. Learn more about erectile dysfunction.
Male Fertility
Male factor infertility is involved in around half of all couples experiencing difficulty conceiving. Common urological causes include varicocele, hormonal problems and obstructive conditions. Mr Shahzad can assess and treat urological causes of male infertility. Learn more about male infertility.
Vasectomy and Non-Scalpel Vasectomy
Vasectomy is a reliable and permanent method of male contraception. The non-scalpel vasectomy technique uses a small puncture rather than an incision, which results in less bleeding and a lower risk of complications. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day case. Learn more about vasectomy.
Circumcision
Adult circumcision may be recommended for medical conditions such as phimosis (tight foreskin), recurrent balanitis or for personal preference. Mr Shahzad performs circumcision under local or general anaesthetic depending on the patient’s preference and clinical circumstances. Learn more about circumcision.
Frenuloplasty
Frenuloplasty is a surgical procedure to lengthen or release the frenulum (the small band of tissue connecting the foreskin to the underside of the penis), which may cause discomfort or tearing. It is a straightforward day-case procedure. Learn more about frenuloplasty.
Hydrocele
A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testicle that causes swelling in the scrotum. It is usually painless but may be uncomfortable. Surgical treatment (hydrocelectomy) is straightforward and effective. Learn more about hydrocele repair.
Varicocele
A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, similar to varicose veins. It is a common and treatable cause of male infertility and may also cause discomfort. Laparoscopic varicocele ligation is an effective treatment. Learn more about varicocele.
Epididymal Cysts
Epididymal cysts are fluid-filled swellings on the epididymis, the coiled tube behind the testicle. They are usually harmless but may cause discomfort or anxiety. Surgical removal is available when indicated. Learn more about epididymal cysts.
Testicular Lumps and Swellings
Any new or changing lump or swelling in the testicle should be assessed by a specialist. While most are benign, testicular cancer needs to be ruled out. Mr Shahzad will carry out an ultrasound and appropriate investigations. Learn more about testicular lumps.
Phimosis (Tight Foreskin)
Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin cannot be retracted over the head of the penis. It can cause discomfort and may affect sexual function. Treatment options include topical steroid cream, preputioplasty or circumcision. Learn more about phimosis.
