Understanding your treatment
What is iAluRil?
iAluRil is a non-antibiotic solution placed directly into the bladder. It contains hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate, substances that help support the bladder’s natural protective lining. Treatment aims to reduce irritation and ease symptoms in selected bladder conditions.
Mr Shahzad will explain why it has been recommended for you and how it fits into your wider treatment plan. Treatment usually involves a course of appointments. The response varies between people, and your symptoms will be reviewed to guide ongoing care.
Step by step
What happens during my appointment?
- A conversation before we begin
We will explain the procedure and check that you are happy to proceed. Please tell us about any new symptoms, possible urine infection, allergies or concerns.
- Getting comfortable
You will usually be asked to empty your bladder, then lie comfortably on the treatment couch. Your privacy and dignity will be respected throughout.
- Placing the treatment into your bladder
Your consultant will gently pass a small, sterile catheter through the urethra—the tube through which you pass urine—into your bladder. Any remaining urine will be drained. The 50 ml iAluRil solution is then slowly introduced through the catheter.
- Removing the catheter
The catheter is carefully removed, leaving the solution inside your bladder. We will explain how long to keep it in and what to do after your appointment.
Your comfort comes first. Please tell us straight away if you feel pain or discomfort. We can pause and discuss how to make you more comfortable before continuing.

Supporting your bladder health
Bladder symptoms can affect sleep, work, relationships and confidence. Alongside your instillations, we can discuss:
- Diet and possible food or drink triggers.
- Fluid intake and toilet habits.
- Stress, sleep and emotional wellbeing.
- Sexual health and any discomfort affecting intimacy.
Advice will be tailored to your circumstances and what matters to you.
Before you go home
After your treatment
You can usually go home after treatment and return to normal activities if you feel well. We will explain whether you need any observation or additional aftercare before leaving.
We usually ask you to keep the solution in your bladder for 2–3 hours, if comfortable. Follow the individual advice given at your appointment and let us know if you find this difficult. Do not force yourself to hold on through significant discomfort.
Some people notice mild discomfort, increased urgency or a small amount of blood in their urine after treatment. These effects are usually temporary.

How this patient feedback was reviewed
Snapshot checked on 19 September 2026. Ratings and review counts can change.
211 reviews across Mr Shahzad’s practice.
30 reviews on the Priory / Edgbaston listing.
These overall ratings cover different conditions and treatments. They are separate from the 26 Doctify reviews tagged Bladder Instillation.
- All 26 displayed Doctify entries were screened; one long review remained partly collapsed. Each displayed 5/5 and the platform’s “verified patient” label. Professional endorsements and platform-generated summaries were excluded.
- Targeted Google screening identified one explicit instillation account and two supporting bladder-care accounts. This was not a complete read of all 30 Google reviews. Google states that its reviews are not verified.
- The separate Stourbridge listing’s one general-care review was excluded from the treatment summary. Halesowen, Little Aston and the separate Birmingham Advanced Urology listing displayed no reviews in the listings inspected.
- These are review entries, not a count of unique patients. Repeat or cross-platform reviewers cannot be reliably identified. The selection is not a survey of everyone treated.
- The selected reviews do not name Jade or Kay, so nursing feedback is attributed to the team.
