Bladder instillation is a treatment in which a therapeutic fluid is introduced directly into the bladder via a thin catheter. It is used for the treatment of bladder cancer and interstitial cystitis / bladder pain syndrome. Bladder instillation is a straightforward outpatient procedure performed without sedation in most cases. A thin catheter is passed into the bladder, the solution is instilled, and the catheter is removed. The fluid is retained in the bladder for a defined period before being voided.
