Can I book TURBT bladder tumour removal privately in Birmingham?
Yes. Private appointments with Mr Syed Ali Shahzad can be requested through Yasmin Khan for assessment and discussion of TURBT bladder tumour removal suitability.
TURBT (transurethral resection of bladder tumour) is the surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat bladder cancer. It is both a diagnostic and therapeutic operation. Mr Syed Ali Shahzad, Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon, performs TURBT at private hospitals across Birmingham.
TURBT is performed under general or spinal anaesthetic. A resectoscope is passed through the urethra into the bladder without any skin incisions. The bladder is inspected with a camera, and any visible tumours are resected (cut away) using an electrically heated loop. The resected material is sent for pathological analysis to determine the cancer type, grade and depth of invasion, which is essential for staging and planning further treatment.
TURBT serves three purposes:
Most patients are discharged the same day or the following morning. Some blood in the urine and urinary symptoms for 1 to 2 weeks are normal. A single dose of intravesical chemotherapy (mitomycin C) may be instilled into the bladder immediately after TURBT to reduce recurrence risk. Cystoscopy surveillance and further treatment depend on the pathology results.
No GP referral is required. Mr Shahzad is recognised by BUPA, AXA, AVIVA, Vitality, Cigna and WPA. Book an appointment or contact us.
TURBT is a procedure to remove or sample bladder tumours through the urinary passage where clinically appropriate. Mr Syed Ali Shahzad provides consultant-led private urology care for patients across Birmingham, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.
