Robotic nephrectomy in Birmingham
Robotic nephrectomy is an operation to remove all or part of a kidney using minimally invasive robotic surgical techniques. It may be considered for selected kidney cancers or other kidney conditions where surgery is appropriate. Mr Shahzad will advise whether this approach is suitable after assessment, imaging review and discussion of treatment goals.
Imaging review
Scans and prior results are reviewed to understand the diagnosis and anatomy.
Procedure options
Surgical and non-surgical options are discussed before any treatment decision.
Aftercare
Recovery expectations, follow-up and return to activity are explained clearly.
What this pathway may involve
- Review of scans and diagnosis
- Discussion of partial or total kidney removal where relevant
- Consideration of robotic, laparoscopic or alternative approaches
- Recovery, aftercare and follow-up guidance
How Mr Shahzad approaches this treatment
The aim is to give patients a clear explanation of why surgery may be recommended, what the robotic approach involves and what to expect before, during and after treatment.
