Urological Surgical Oncology in Birmingham

Urological surgical oncology encompasses the diagnosis, staging and surgical treatment of cancers arising in the urinary tract and male reproductive organs. Mr Syed Ali Shahzad, Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon, is an experienced uro-oncological surgeon who chairs the weekly Uro-oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting at Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust and is a Principal Investigator in national cancer research trials.

Cancers We Treat

  • Prostate cancer – radical prostatectomy (robotic and laparoscopic)
  • Kidney cancer – robotic nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy
  • Bladder cancer – TURBT, intravesical therapy, radical cystectomy
  • Upper tract urothelial carcinoma – nephroureterectomy
  • Testicular cancer – orchidectomy and coordination of staging and systemic treatment

Multidisciplinary Cancer Care

All cancers are discussed at the Uro-oncology MDT, ensuring every patient’s case is reviewed by urological surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and pathologists together. This ensures the most appropriate, evidence-based treatment recommendation for each individual. Mr Shahzad’s involvement in national research trials gives his patients access to the latest treatments and trial participation opportunities.
