Blood in Urine Assessment in Birmingham

Blood in the urine, also called haematuria, should be assessed carefully. Mr Syed Ali Shahzad provides private consultant-led assessment for visible and non-visible blood in the urine across Birmingham, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.

Visible blood

Blood that can be seen in the urine should be investigated promptly, even if it happens only once.

Non-visible blood

Microscopic blood found on urine testing may still need specialist review depending on age, symptoms and risk factors.

Bladder pathway

Assessment may include urine tests, imaging and cystoscopy where clinically appropriate.

Private haematuria assessment

Blood in the urine can have several causes, including infection, stones, prostate problems, kidney conditions or bladder abnormalities. It does not always mean cancer, but it is important that the cause is assessed properly.

What the pathway may involve

  • Review of symptoms, medical history and previous urine results
  • Urine testing and infection assessment where appropriate
  • Imaging of the urinary tract when clinically indicated
  • Cystoscopy to inspect the bladder where needed
  • Clear explanation of findings and next steps

When to seek urgent help

Seek urgent medical help through NHS 111, your GP, A&E or emergency services if you have heavy bleeding, clots, severe pain, fever, feel very unwell or cannot pass urine.
